Lots of times a standard forklift will not give you the type of distance you need. Other times you’ll end up lifting more than is recommended with your current forklift. The solution to both these issues is a forklift extension. These give you the support you need when lifting heavy or long pallets.
They allow you to reach further by giving your forklift extra length. This can truly increase the productivity of your forklift. Forklift extensions are available to fit various blade sizes. Installing the extension is easy ; all you need to do is slip it over the standard forklift blades. The dimensions of your extension should be equivalent to the width of the blade.
There are OSHA standards which dictate the length of extensions that you can use. The length of the extension would possibly not be longer than 50 p.c of the length of the blade. The extensions are made using steel and then covered with a powder coat finish. This finish will prevent them from corroding. There are many different lengths of forklift extensions available but the two most common are 60 and 72. There are 2 main options available for securing the forklift extension blades. One choice is a fast release mechanism which uses a pull pin to secure the extensions. This isn’t as safe as a safety loop which is welded on and gives you much more secure attachment.
The extensions can either be tapered or non-tapered. Then making your selection consider the type of loads you generally carry. When using forklift extensions you should usually keep safety in mind. Check your extensions prior to use to make sure that they are not damaged in any way. Always double check the securing mechanism to ensure that they are correctly secured. When forklift extensions are incorrectly secured there’s a likelihood of accidents and injury.
